
Dining Out
Nantucket has lots of great restaurants. The epicurian tradition began in earnest after World War II when Harold and Gwen Gaillard opened the Opera House. In the early 1970's more sophisticated restaurants began to open offering delectable cuisine. Today there are over 20 high end eateries. The island also has it share of more down to earth places, featuring local seafood and simple menus. The following is a list of some favorites:
Fine Dining

An island classic, the Club Car features traditional French cuisine. There is also a very lively bar inside a railcar featuring a nightly piano player who encourages sing-alongs.

Try the upstairs back(two tables) dining area on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights, with John Krebs behind the bar. This restaurant has excellent food and a lively bar scene. There is an outside patio bar and dining area as well.

Established in 1972, the Boarding House is an island standard. Seth and Angela Raynor have presided over the Boarding House for the last 15 years then opened the Pearl in 1999. The Boarding House has a very lively bar scene and patio dining over looking Federal Street. The Pearl is just next door, very chic in decor with food and spirits to match.
